With the OOUMSA 2025 elections fast approaching, the air is thick with flyers, campaign promises, and candidates suddenly discovering the magic of saying “hi” to people they've ignored for years. OOUMSAites are already beginning to align with their preferred candidates, showing support across WhatsApp statuses, group chats, and whispered hostel conversations.
But as hopefuls work tirelessly to win hearts and votes, the peaceful campaign atmosphere was recently rocked by a dramatic and unexpected social media episode, one that has now thrown everyone into a frenzy, questioning motives, maturity, and manners. It all began when one OOUMSAite took to the social group chat to share a strongly worded opinion:
“My own na if you no dey greet me before, no carry your campaign reach my side or DM. I go come spoil your campaign for here o.”
Apparently, he was fed up with the sudden friendliness being exhibited by some candidates who, according to him, previously never acknowledged him until they needed his vote. A few found the message amusing. One person responded:
“This greet wey dem no greet you pain you gan o wtf.”
But the original sender didn’t back down:
“Na as everybody dey do oju aye dey annoying nw. If dem enter nw, dem go turn God.”
What looked like a casual outburst quickly turned into an emotional dump and, ultimately, a personal callout.
Things escalated when the former OOUSUG Medical Director, who recently completed his tenure, entered the chat visibly irritated by the message:
“What does this even mean? Is everything fine? Which kind nonsense talk be this?”
Then came the bombshell response that hinted at a deeper, unresolved issue:
“I once asked you to help me post my business when you were the MD, you use me pa. Na wetin I dey talk be that. And you were not the first to do such. You fit talk this when you dey campaign??”
Clearly, the grievance wasn’t about election behaviour alone, it stemmed from a personal disappointment during the Medical Director’s time in office.
Trying to explain his side, the former MD calmly replied:
“I can even remember the whole thing. Before I could open the video, it already cleared ‘cause he uses disappearing messages. This is something that could have been sorted by a very simple physical interaction.”
To which the reply was:
“Now when I remember, I talk am. And na matter reach matter. You sef know wetin you dey do before.”
So far, no punches thrown, just emotional jabs.
Sensing the tension, the current OOUMSA Senate President stepped in like a seasoned referee, trying to calm the waters:
“This is very unnecessary. There's no need to talk like this.”
He followed up with some perspective:
“Campaigning in an OOUMSA election is very different from an SUG election, if that’s the understanding you need. If you have issues with the current candidates, iron it out with them or not. There's no need to be joining issues unnecessarily.”
But peace did not return.
In the midst of the heated exchange, a truly Nigerian moment happened. One hungry OOUMSAite, clearly unfazed by the digital commotion, dropped this in the chat:
“Abeg who dey sell amala and fit deliver sharp-sharp?”
Because no matter how loud the politics gets, food is priority.
The original complainant, likely still nursing his grudge, wasn’t done yet. He responded to the MD with a message that made many jaws drop:
“All these one na English. Your behavior no good. Na the conclusion be that. No be everything we just fit dey talk outside, you sef know. We don’t pray for someone like you again in that post.”
The former MD, obviously pushed to the edge, lost his cool and fired back:
“You're a stupid boy. And irredeemable at that. I dignified you with an interaction, because I thought otherwise.”
What followed next shocked even the most unbothered in the group:
“Your father is stupid sir.”
A moment of silence descended. The group chat was stunned. A junior medical student had just insulted the father of a final-year student and former officeholder, publicly.
The former OOUMSA Social Director jumped in, visibly upset:
“The level of disrespect in this association is really outrageous. A lot has been allowed lately and this is evidence. Imagine this! Coming from your classmate is even an insult how much more your senior. Aside books and activities, there’s need for discipline.”
But the original poster had more fuel to pour on the fire. Attempting to “apologize,” he said:
“Apologies for saying your father is stupid. You are the stupid one. That’s better.”
At this point, seniors were visibly livid, juniors were shocked, and everyone else was just scrolling in disbelief. Some began discussing punishment or disciplinary actions, while others wondered aloud:
“Is this really about a business advert… or is something deeper brewing beneath the surface?”
Let’s break it down:
A genuine grievance — about being ignored until campaign season — was shared publicly.
Personal bitterness about a past event (a business video post) resurfaced.
Multiple seniors tried to mediate, but failed.
Boundaries were crossed, and an insult that shocked the entire group was dropped.
A whole amala order got lost in the drama.
Now, the entire OOUMSA community is watching closely. Will this lead to consequences for the student who lashed out? Will apologies be issued? Will the campaign focus be restored?
Time will tell. But for now, OOUMSAites are left to reflect on this turbulent episode and maybe, just maybe, greet people before they have something you need.
This isn’t just about one guy or one MD. It’s about how we treat one another, how grievances should be aired, and the need for emotional intelligence — even during elections.
Also… someone please help that guy find his amala vendor. He’s the real victim in all of this.
